Project Description:
Students learn about the affect of friction by conducting an experiment whereby they put three or four books to create a ramp for different strips of foam board with different surfaces. Before the students begin their experiment, they will make predictions and hypothesize about which surface they believe will take the most force (or Newtons) for the truck to get up the ramp, as measured on a spring scale. Students then conduct an experiment in small groups using the materials listed below to test their hypothesis.
Materials Needed:
-One strip will be just the board, one strip will be the board with sandpaper glued on, and one strip will be the foam board with carpet glued on.
